Wegovy Hair Loss vs Aging — The Difference
Is Your Hair Loss From Wegovy or Unrelated?
Just because you’re on Wegovy doesn’t mean Wegovy caused your shedding. Knowing how to tell matters for treatment.
Baseline Hair Loss
Every human loses 50-100 hairs per day as part of natural turnover. Most people never realize because the cycle is balanced.
Wegovy-Related Telogen Effluvium
Telogen effluvium from Wegovy has specific characteristics:
- Onset: Began 8-16 weeks after starting treatment
- Distribution: Not concentrated in any area — no bald patches
- Volume: Clumps in shower, on pillow, in brush — clearly abnormal volume
- Hair appearance: Hairs have a white bulb at the root (this confirms they were in the resting phase)
- Associated factors: Caloric deficit and body composition change
Signs It Might NOT Be Wegovy
Seek evaluation if:
- Bald patches — may indicate an autoimmune condition (not TE)
- Receding hairline or crown thinning — possibly genetic hair loss (separate from Wegovy)
- Inflammation — may suggest seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, or fungal infection
- Pre-existing shedding — Wegovy may not be the cause
- Sudden rapid loss in a specific area — may indicate something requiring medical evaluation
Your Plan
If your shedding matches the Wegovy/TE pattern:
- Don’t panic — your hair will come back
- Begin the supplement protocol: Biotin, collagen, iron (if low), D3, zinc
- Prioritize protein intake — your hair needs raw materials
- Treat hair carefully — no tight styles, gentle brushing
- Wait — hair biology is slow
If anything seems off: consult a hair specialist. They can perform a pull test, scalp biopsy, or trichoscopy to ensure proper treatment.
